The ramblings and mumblings of a wannabe poker pro

4 Times!

I’ve just been railed again, this time in 4th, by yet another opponent who makes trips to bust me. This is now the 4th consecutive game where I have lost a crucial pot to an opponent who made trips, 3 of those cost me my tournament seat… I am not fucking happy.

This 4th time I was short stacked with less then ten big blinds and find AA. Now I knew this was risky on the onset, but took and chance, its not so much loosing the pot that pisses me off, its the same thing happening 4 times in a row!

Anyways I’m short stacked and if I win the pot outright before the flop I will barley have ten big blinds, it would be better then nothing but it wouldn’t be good enough, so I decided to try and sell a call. I did this by making a standard 4xBB raise to 600, leaving me with a little over 800 and offering the best odds I could for someone to call without inviting too many people in on the action.

I get one caller which is exactly what I wanted, but I get a terrible flop, TxT, I have no choice, I’m pot committed and go all-in, hoping for a fold, but instead I’m greeted by JT who flopped trips, I miss my outs on 4th and 5th and are on the rail again.

Blooming Trips!

Not been a good day for me today, though without doubt I think I have played very well in all of my games.

I have lost 3 major pots, one in each game I have sat in, and two cost me my seat in the tournament, all to my opponent running into trips. In the first game, My opponent hung on with a small pair and then hit a set on the river to beat my two pair and stole a huge pot from me.

Hand 1

The second game had a similar occurrence, with me calling a ridiculous all-in on the flop from an opponent who paired is 8 with J8, of course on the river he made trips to crack my pocket kings and bust me.

Hand 2

Then the 3rd game, I feel forced to make a move with AQ, and run into pocket kings who flops a set to bust me.

Hand 3

On the brighter side, I’m up about $2k in play money from 100/200 Razz lol

Lucky Big Stack

Just been railed in my first Sit-N-Go of the day, finished in 5th. I’m very annoyed about not winning, or at least cashing in this, I played well, but one of my opponents got lucky against me twice, firstly decimating my stack by hitting a set on the river and then busting me by hitting a flush on the river.

This was the turning point for me, I’ll be posting for feedback on this, as it was this hand that lead to my early demise, maybe I could have gotten away from it?

Crap Day

Well its been a crap day today, lost 3 games in a row, so calling it a do, although I’m planning on sitting in on a cash game later. The good news is that all 3 games where totally different and each gave me something to think about, and reminded me of some weaknesses.

The first game never gave me action for my strong hands which reminded me I need to bluff now and again, which is something I hardly ever do online, but do pretty well live. The 2nd game reminded me that if someone is calling you all the way to showdown, they sometimes do have a hand, even if the do make a habit of doing it with nothing.

Finally my last game showed a weakness in my game when I have a maniac on my table. My normal strategy is to be patient and to not tangle with them and then when the cards come stack them, if the cards don’t come though as they didn’t in this game I’m left short stacked and am under even more pressure not to make a move. In this instance Mr Lunatic raised virtually every pot regardless of what he held, I should have played back at him and re-raised with some speculative hands, rather then just let him dominate the table whilst I fold to his constant raising.

I don’t feel I have played well at all today, but not too badly either, in two games out of the three I was beaten by pocket aces and the other by a set. At least I picked up some much needed points and bumped into some situations to get me thinking.

A Bigger Lay-Down!

I’m getting really sick of online players at the moment. A complete arse hole forced me to lay down KK, because he made a huge raise which put the short stack all in. He only held AT and considering the situation and the size of his raise it wasn’t enough, and the other guy came off the better taking virtually all his chips. Now normally I would be ecstatic that some lunatic idiot donkey got most of his chips stolen, because this was one huge raise that didn’t land his way, but in this case no… if he wouldn’t have made such a stupid raise I would have busted out the short stack and we would have all been in the money far sooner.

As it went down though the short stack became the chip leader and I was now the short stack and in a real bad position with a couple of thousand in chips and facing three opponents now with roughly equal chips stacks.

Thankfully though some cards fall my way, I hit trips on the flop, I knew exactly what to do as I managed the same trap against an equally large arse hole earlier in the day. I bet the minimum on the flop, it was a risk as there where two clubs on the board, but no club showed on the turn, so I bet the minimum again, and as if by clockwork Mr A Hole makes is move with a huge raise for 2/3 my stack, perfect, I raise just a little and he raises himself all-in (cah-ching), I see his cards and he’s holding a king which paired on the flop!

So thankfully for once I have a nice chip stack while 3 handed, in fact this is the first time I’ve ever had the chip lead as we moved from 4 to 3 handed I think. It didn’t take long and the short stack was on the rail, it was heads-up, and who do I face, the same guy I would have knocked out earlier with my pocket Kings!

I was feeling good though, I made 2nd place money again and was in a great position to take the tournament. All didn’t go to plan though, after a few flops that didn’t fall my way we where more or less level, soon though against yet another tournament deciding pot I come the worse off, and in the next couple of hands I’m all in, each of us only hit a single king on the flop, be he holds a queen kicker, beating my jack… its been one of those days.

Nice Cards :-)

Whilst waiting for a freeroll tournament to start, thought I’ll sit down at a cash game for a few hands and try and pick up a bit of profit to off-set my deficit and I ran into a bit of luck.

After a couple of hands, I found KK in the hole, and went in with a raise, and got one aggressive caller to re-raise me, I re-raised him back and found another king waiting for me on the flop – Lovely. The very next hand and I find AA and go in aggressive (a limit game), the same player sticks with me, no set from the flop this time but my pair did the job on its own and netted me a nice profit.

Think thats the first time I’ve ever found KK and then AA immediately afterwards.
